Lois Lane Watch: Smallville and Comics Synergy

By Holli

We’ve been keeping a close eye on the comics to see when Lois Lane and/or Clark Kent will reappear in continuity.  We have better than just mere appearances, we have references to Smallville storylines and vice versa.

In the two hour event ABSOLUTE JUSTICE of Smallville’s Season 9, written by Geoff Johns, Lois Lane enters at the beginning of the second hour to announce she had an interview scheduled with Michael Holt, Nobel Prize winning tech guru.  Justice Society of America fans will recognize him to be Mr. Terrific (2nd version).  Recently in Action #888, we find Lois Lane working as a reporter along side Mister Terrific as the JSA and Wonder Woman attempt to save the world from nuclear annihilation and the ‘god’ Rao.  The story was written by Greg Rucka, Eric Trautmann and James Robinson.

In last week’s episode UPGRADE, written by Andrew Landis and Julia Swift, we find John Corben aka Metallo is the hero of the story and he tells Lois Lane all the things he ‘loves’ about her.  She responds by saying she has already found her guy.  “He is it for me!”  She then attempts to soften her usually brusque manner with, “maybe if this were another lifetime.”

Perhaps Lois was referencing the latest installment of Superman’s Secret Origins (#5) written by Geoff Johns.  John Corben is a sergeant under General Lane and Lois’ father thinks Corben would make a great son-in-law.  Lois does not.  Highly recommend this issue especially if you are a mythos fan!
